I haven't owned an merican made car since August 1989, the last one being a corvette that lasted all of 2.5 months before I dropped it back off at the dealer. I currently drive a Porsche Carrera 4S, an Audi A4 and a Mazda3. I am looking to get into a couple of new vehicles soon. I am considering a new Porsche Cayman S or another used 911 or an Audi S5 unless used V8 Vantage prices find themselves in the mid $70k price range. On the sedan side I am considering a used Audi RS4 or a used Mercedes E55 or CLS55. I am intrigued by the CTS-V but honestly, the concept of purchasing another merican made car terrifies me. What can I expect for my $70g's as far as quality and customer service go? The problem I have with the new corvette's is that gm is charging Porsche prices for chevrolet customer service and every time I turn around some merican made car company is recalling another 1.4 million vehicles for something or another.
Thank you in advance

the cts-v is an awesome car, it is a little low on the MPG's but it is a great car. s5 looks awesome but it cant really handle all that well. I'd say get a v or a used rs4.

I know this is an old post, but here it is. I am lost to the reputation that american cars have. I have had three fords. They went to 150k, 140k, and 176k before i moved on. The cars need minor repairs - brakes, tires, etc. My father inlaw's buick went to 246k. Again he moved on, but the car was still sound. What am I/we to expect from cars? 300k - 400k. Are the Asian or German cars lasting this long? I hear about lots of issues with Audi and VW... I bought my 09 CTS-V with complete confidence.

I understand your concern. But I don't remember any recall on these Corvettes to be quite honest. I've had two an 03 coupe 6spd and most recently an 08 Z06, a literal fire breathing monster. Yes, Chvrolet service leabes much to be desired when comparing to a Cadillac dealership. I'm hoping with all the negative attention GM has gotten over their financila crisis will go deep into their management mission and philosophy...they should and hope to reflect on what brought to them to this dismall stage of their history.
Managment cronyism and unions have created apathy among the rank and file and quite frankly product designs have been waning or years, with much duplicity across the entire product line.. Chevy, GMC.
Specifically Corvette is a proprietary production line. Z06 engines being hand built out of Wixom, MI and then sent onto Bowling Green KY to mate up with the body. The cars have been winning in the GT1 and GT2 24 hr Rolex series for several years now. They are fabulous cars for the money.
The CTS-V as you know currently holds the Nurbering track record in Gdermany. My feeling is the Cadillac dealerships will be more inviting and aware of customer service expectations.
It's unfortunate the sweet Corvette is sold at the Chevy dealer where mostly trucks and lower priced models are sold and thus have the after sales mindset of same. they need to have their own Dept specific to the customer that tends to buy them. Typically sports car fanatics that love them and keep them well maintained and take pride in a dream car thatmnay have wanted since childhood.
Give the CTS-V a chance and I'm banking you will walk away having to change your shorts after a spin around the block. No Porsche or similarly priced car will hold it's own against it. In fact, cars much more expensive "can't" hold their own against the mighty V.
Not partial..just reporting the facts.
